Workshop Description: The next great chapter in Florida’s affordable housing story is being written right now by pioneering nonprofit housing developers and local government officials.

Join your colleagues from the nonprofit and public sectors to learn how you can be part of these exciting and important developments and create a new TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE – housing that is affordable, financially feasible and environmentally sustainable.

This FREE workshop will showcase the successful efforts of nonprofit housing organizations in designing and financing “green” affordable housing projects.

  1. Find out why these nonprofit housing development organizations decided to build “green”
  2. Hear about the integrated design process – who is part of the team and what options did they consider in materials and design to produce healthier, more energy-efficient homes and apartments for low-income Floridians
  3. Get practical tips for low-cost or no-cost strategies that will enable you to build housing that is both affordable and environmentally friendly without “ busting the budget”
  4. Learn about local government incentives already on the books or in the works to promote green home-building
  5. Discover the types of government incentives that could work in your city or county;
  6. Learn how to access grants, loans, technical assistance and policy development services available through the Florida Green Communities™ Initiative

Who Should Attend: Nonprofit housing developers, construction managers, board members, executive directors, contractors, project architects and engineers, local governments – SHIP administrators, community development and planning staff.

Why Attend: Because building or renovating housing to be healthy, energy-efficient, water-wise and sustainable is not just for market-rate for-profit developments. Your next affordable or supportive housing project can maximize affordability, improve resident health and provide numerous environmental benefits for the families you serve and the communities where you work.
