The Florida Green Building Coalition, Inc. (FGBC) is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable development and green building in the state of Florida. The mission of the organization is to provide a statewide green building program that provides both environmental and economic benefits to those that elect to participate.

FGBC has become the leading green building and sustainable development organization in the state of Florida by bringing together the various green building efforts across the state, and by developing voluntary technical standards for a variety of green practices. Four green designations are currently offered for: Homes; Land Development; Commercial Buildings, and Local Government (Cities & Counties). Additional standards for System Built/Modular Housing, Interior & Universal Design, and Multi-Story High Rise Residential are currently under development. A Green Affordable Housing Certification Program is also available in conjunction with the Florida Community Loan Fund and the Enterprise Foundation. The current standards are available for free downloading from the FGBC website: www.FloridaGreenBuilding.org.

  • Direct training and consulting activities,
  • Applied research projects and case studies,
  • Academic courses and degree programs, and
  • Evaluation of “green” certification standards.
We operate on the fundamental premise that building and maintaining an inclusive, multi-disciplinary collaborative team is the key to the Program’s success.

The Environments For Living Program

The Environments For Living® Program
2339 Beville Road
Daytona Beach, FL  32119
www.eflbuilder.com

The Environments For Living® program uses the principles of building science to help builders construct homes that are more energy efficient, comfortable, durable, healthier and safer than homes that do not include the program requirements. The program establishes requirements for tight construction, fresh air ventilation, improved thermal systems, right-sized HVAC equipment, balanced air pressure, internal moisture management and combustion safety. A plan review is conducted for each new model to help builders determine the steps required to meet the program specifications. The program is performance-based and does not require builders to use a particular manufacturer's product. Homes are evaluated through random testing by trained and certified contractors. At all levels of the program, homes are issued guarantees on heating and cooling energy-use. Gold and Platinum homes are issued a comfort guarantee*.
