FGBC Certifying Agent CourseAdditional Fee: $399
This 2-day course will provide technical instruction on whole house construction methods to achieve environmentally sustainable, energy efficient and durable housing. It is a comprehensive workshop on building science principles that include building envelopes, resource and energy efficiency, water conservation, and indoor air quality. Day 2 will focus on the FGBC Green Home Standard and certification requirements as well as the role and responsibility of the FGBC Certifying Agent. Successful Grant Writing - Additional Fee: $49
Successful grant proposals are ones in which the project goals and objectives of the grantee and those of the granter are in agreement. Get expert guidance on how to successfully identify and submit grant proposals. This course will review possible sources of funding, including economic stimulus funds,  and eligibility factors. You'll learn what the most common mistakes made are in grant applications and how to write winning funding requests.. You'll also learn what to do in the event your grant application is rejected. Following Dr. Katsvairo's presentation, Ms. Rubin will discuss opportunities and challenges faced when applying for and executing stimulus funding. She will analyze potential opportunities for funding and review strategies to develop, manage and implement new programs. Four policy areas will be explored: Energy (renewable and alternative), green infrastructure, water conservation, and waste management.

Affordable Housing Goes Green - Successfully
This course is designed to convey practical insight on how to incorporate green building applications and certification into affordable housing projects, while not imposing additional costs to the overall budget.  Discover how to evaluate new systems and technologies for appropriate incorporation into a project.  You'll also learn about life-cycle costs and second costs to sufficiently convey the value to homeowners purchasing their first home. And find out how to recognize and avoid  "green washing."

You'll also learn about the Florida Housing Finance Corporation’s green criteria for single family and multifamily developments, plus the. process of applying for financing. The presentation will also highlight research on green affordable housing and its impact on the planning process, upfront costs, and savings over the lifetime of the building.

Comparison of FGBC, LEED and NAHB Home Standards

Cost Benefit Analysis for High Performance Buildings

It will cover the basics of green benefit targeting with the client, implementing a methodology of decision making and finalizing cost/benefit analysis evaluations for decision makers.  Real project examples will be utilized. We will review current industry tools and cover new emerging technologies that will make these processes easier in the future.

Most underwriting standards, appraisal strategies and lending projects were created for conventional building approaches, so how are they being adapted to meet the demand of green building? And how are government programs incentivizing energy and water efficiency, renewable energy and other green techniques in new and retrofitted construction?
