In the 1975, the Florida legislature created the Florida Solar Energy Center, otherwise known as FSEC. This was to test and certify solar hot water system. It was established as a research institute of the University of Central Florida. It mission has expanded to include alternative fuel research, energy efficient homes, and photovoltaics, but FSEC still tests and certifies solar equipment, researches, and trains people to work in fields involving renewable energy.
