Program on Building a Resilient Jacksonville Postponed

A program on Building a Resilient Jacksonville has been postponed.

The program was to be held at the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Florida First Coast Chapter’s monthly luncheon meeting in partnership with the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the state’s leading certifier of green projects and local governments.

Resilience is the ability to recover from adversity, to return to some sense of normalcy after shock or stress, or to adapt to a changed environment.

The program will highlight the role of the design and construction community in providing a resilient North Florida and will bring into focus local and state efforts to absorb, recover and prepare for future ‘shocks’ to our economy, environment, institutions and citizens.

“With respect to buildings and communities, resiliency is also the act of maintaining livable conditions – through deteriorating or even devastating circumstances – at all levels and scales of development and construction,” noted ABC and FGBC member Mary Tappouni, President of Breaking Ground Contracting, who will moderate the program.

A panel of experts will include John Pappas, City of Jacksonville Director of Public Works, the Honorable Elaine Brown, Mayor of Neptune Beach and Tony Pooley, Senior Project Manager for Sustainability and Resiliency Development with Environmental Services, Inc. a Terracon Company.
